LaVilla has placed students in the All-State Concert Band and Jazz Band every year since it opened - the only middle school in the state to place a student in the All-State Jazz Band every year since it began.

School Recognition
As the 20th largest school district in the nation, Duval County serves more than 19,000 middle school students. LaVilla School of the Arts is a dedicated magnet program that draws middle school students from all parts of Jacksonville, Florida to its ten specialized arts area programs.

Film Feature
In 2007, LaVilla was featured in the documentary film "Chops", which followed band students from their first notes at LaVilla to their performance at the prestigious Essentially Ellington Festival with Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and has been screened at Lincoln Center in New York and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
